Archana Singh

Dr. Archana Singh is an Associate Professor at Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute, Prayagraj. After obtaining her PhD in philosophy, she completed postdoctoral research under the aegis of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research,  New Delhi, on 'Eco-feminism as a war against the survival of the fittest'. This research critically analyzed intersections between gender, ecology and social justice through a philosophical lens. Dr. Singh's academic and research interests lie in caste studies, gender studies, cultural studies and Dalit studies. The common thread running through all her work is the relationship between caste/class/gender/cultural identities and the experiences of various marginalised communities, particularly Dalit women, tribal women and women from minority groups. Dr. Singh's current research examines contemporary caste and gender issues, with particular emphasis on the array of strategies and forms of resistance used by women to challenge oppressive/dominating structures embedded in caste/class/gender hierarchies. Through her work, Dr. Singh aims to place subaltern voices at the forefront of her research and contribute to a greater understanding of social justice, empowerment and the formation of identities. Dr. Singh is also a recognised gender trainer, engaged in many capacities building programmes on Gender Equality, Women's Rights, and Social Inclusion. She is a qualitative research methodologist with extensive fieldwork experience. She is skilled in ethnographic research, participatory research methodologies, narrative inquiry, and feminist methods, enabling her to conduct nuanced evaluations of social processes and experiences of marginalization. She demonstrates a commitment to interdisciplinary research, drawing on philosophy and empirical social research to address issues of inequality, social change, and human dignity.
